Strange spot

My 7 year old dd has a strange spot on her right cheek for the past 6 weeks or so. Initially I thought it was a normal spot as it does look a bit like a whitehead that hasn't "popped" - sorry if that's TMI!! However, 6 weeks later it looks exactly the same. I tried putting spot cream on it but nothing changed - she says it doesn't itch or irritate and it doesn't appear to be growing. I also wondered if it was the beginning of a wart or mole but again, it just looks like a whitehead. Anyone got any ideas? I will take her to the gp shortly but didn't want to go unnecessarily. My mum (a health visitor) says it's nothing sinister but it is a bit strange. We were on holiday in Greece when it came up - maybe it was an insect bite? Any thoughts appreciated!!

My 23 month old DD has one of those. It came up when she was about a year old, and the GP did tell me the name of it - which I've forgotten, sorry. My DH took E to see same GP on another occasion about something else - and she stuck a needle in and squeezed it, saying they can hang around for years otherwise (I wasn't best pleased at not being consulted, at the time!). It promptly filled up again within a few days, and I've left it alone since - it has shrunk to almost invisible, all on its own, but not quite gone.

Your DD's sounds the same - looks like a whitehead that hasn't popped - if it is, its normal for it to still be there for quite a while. Your GP should know about it, but doubt my HV would have either. HTH!

ps...different gp noticed it on more recent visit (he's a skin specialist) and said he did'nt think they should be 'popped', but should be left alone. Clearly a controversial spot!

Ooooh! I've got one of these just under my right eye. It's been there for months. I have thought about having a squeeze but the area under the eye is so delicate i didn't fancy it. It's very small, I'm sure it's not noticeable by anyone else, but i do wonder what it is.

I get these all the time under my eye/on cheekbone. I pesonally squeeze them but wouldnt recommend with your DD as it hurts a bit.
They do go eventually but mine always come back. I always thought they were something to do with calcium

Not molluscum, at least my DD's one isn't. She's had very mild molluscum too, but there is a clear difference - the 'whitehead' one is a one-off. Wish I could remember the name my GP used.

Thanks so much for your response! It certainly sounds like the same thing. I'll take her to see the gp but I'm also not keen on them squeezing it - it's in a pretty prominent place and I think it might scar. Thanks again!

I get these around my eyes. They are like whiteheads, but the stuff inside is a solid lump. A beauty therapist once told me that she got them zapped. A hot sterile pin stuck in the middle will open the skin for you to squeeze the ick out

My DD also has one of these....she's had hers for about a year. Our GP told us to "pop" it!!! DD won't let me near it anyway but I don't think I could.

This is what they are millia

I went into a beauty salon today and they do a millia facial - it involves a hot flannel and a syringe for removing the little blighters

Ummm...my DD's one isn't a milia, either. I know they look similar, but the name the GP gave was definitely not milia.
