having trouble getting antibiotics into a 24wk old with a heavy cold and an ear infection . am using a syringe but he just keeps spitting it out or throwing up. does anyone know if a medicine dispensing dummy works or does it just make them choke?

yes it does!
i had the exact same problem, only with a 12 week old!
spon and syringe just didn't work. in fact, he even spat it out when given it with the dummy until i discovered how to trick him!

I had to wait until he was asleep, and swap his dummy for the medicine dummy and he would jhust take it all,. then i would swap them back and he was none the wiser!

i got mine from boots... and then saw them about half the price from mothercare!

bobbit... how old is your dd? is she breastfed or formula? my ds used to strain and cry and then just do a big sloppy poo! sometimes when they are that little they just don't like the sensation of it, after all it's pretty new and weird to them... hence the crying etc

STARLOVER . SHES NOW BOTTLEFED AND NEVER HAD PROBS B4 I GAVE HER BABY RICE

Report
starlover · 18/11/2005 21:39

well it could be because of the rice. 15 weeks is really early to wean. they do recommend waiting til 6 months now.
when was her last poo?
the only thing i can think of is getting her to take some water...

just give her more milk! seriously, she doesn't need baby rice yet. they tend to have a growth spurt around that age anyway...
leave off it and see if it makes her better

SHUD I FORGET IT AND KEEP HER ON THE MILK

OKAY ... WILL DO THANKYOU

Report
starlover · 18/11/2005 21:47

just see how you go. if it clears up you'll know it was the baby rice that caused it!

of course, it means a few more sleepless nights! but it's worth it if she feels better isn't it

DEFINITLEY ..... HOPE IT COMES OUT SOON

bobbit, i would hold off on weaning for a bit, maybe her insides just aren't ready. my ds is 24wks and he's not weaned yet. i did start last week but gave up when his cold got bad, 15 wks is very early unless she's a big baby

bobbit - yes listen to starlover, dont wean yet formula is more than enough (and her belly is too immature for anything else), just increase her intake, if she is waking in the night you could always try doing a dream feed before you go to bed at night, that will help increase the calories she is getting and should get her going through the night again. hth

HOW DO YOU DO IT ? IV HEARD ABOUT IT BUT NEVER DONE IT

Report
starlover · 18/11/2005 22:04

well, ds used to go to bed at about 8ish and then when i went to bed at about half ten/eleven i would go in and just pick him out of the cot and give him his bottle
he rarely woke up, or if he did he stayed really sleepy. just keep the lights turned down low so as not to wake her up!

then just pop her back to bed and hopefully she'll stay asleep!
