Why am i having such sparodic periods? I feel premenstrual for months on end

I've not had a period for four months now. Before that two, before that four. They are just all over the place. The only problem with this is i am loosing my marbles, I am having signs of pmt ( i.e. incredible mood swings and crying at the most ridiculous things).
I went to the doctors for it a while ago and was told that most woman would be pleased. I'm not as i am ruled entirely by my hormones and would like then balanced.

Does anyone know why periods can be irregular and what you can do about it?

TIA.

Could be polycystic ovarian syndrome, or could be a hormone imbalance. Go back to the doctor and threaten to stay there till he sends you for blood tests. Most women pleased indeed! Gah!

Would polycistic ovaries not be found in pregnancies?

I will book another appointment. Cheers.

fairyfly, I do symathise, I'm having the same problem lately, but I'm having hot flushes with it too. It can be really embarrasing, everyone else freezing cold and I'm so hot my hair is wet from sweat (yuk, I know). I'm a little bit to young to be going through 'the change' and dp is going through it with my mood swings.

Its horrible, maybe we should both go to our GP's and demand tests.

Was gonna say polycystic Ovaria sydrom as well

Go and see a more sympathetic GP and ask for a test!

fairyfly,

Not entirely surprised to read of your GP's answer - many GPs (like this one) can be very ignorant when it comes to dealing with women's gynaecological problems.

Seek out another GP in your practice if there is one and ask for a blood test to be done. This will tell you what your hormone levels are like. You must ensure that they test both your LH and FSH levels and compare the two. If LH is higher than FSH this is one possible indicator of PCOS.

My initial thought as well on reading your message was PCOS.

Both Squirrel3 and your good self should demand more tests. Do not be fobbed off - this is your health we're talking about!.

my boyfriend is getting the brunt of it too squirrel, i also keep having feelings of morning sickness and hot flushes.

Will demand!
