i have hpv, 5 years ago (21yo) i had LLETZ done, and CIN2 - 3 was removed. I have had regular paps and has shown clear after the op, but have recently had pap which showed CIN 1, some cells suggest CIN 2. So have had a biopsy, but results came back showing nothing. So doctor advised colposcopic evaluation in hospital, says need to go further in for another sample. How many times can it come back, & what should i expect? Scared & confused.

Hi Leonie79

just wanted to say that I had seen your post. I don't know much about this so cant really comment, I didn't want you thinking nobody had read your post though.

I must say that I didn't really understand the terminology very well. Perhaps you could explain in laymans terms?

Soup dragon was 'bumping' the thread for you so that it remained in active conversations.

I hope that someone that has been in your situation will come on and can give you some advice, I'm sorry I can't help but by bumpimg the thread someone that has experienced what you are going through may see it.

Thinking of you! {hug}

expat and JoolsToo seem to know a lot about this sort of thing (we were discussing it a few nights ago).

Bumping this so they might see it and be able to help you out.

It can come back as many times as it can, or never, or after a decade, 2 decades, etc.

As you probably already know, methods of treatment for cervical cell abnormalities are very effective. But the virus is yours for life, so there can be recurrances.

If you smoke, PLEASE stop! This has been linked positively to cervical cancer. Do not douche, either.

The colpo should just go like any other colpo.

Good luck! Here's hoping it goes well.

thankyou for your responses.....really appreciate them. I am finding it really hard to find information on it, & especially about re-occurance.

It can in some women. It can come back once more, never, multiple times, etc. The actress Brooke Shields, for example, experienced recurrances of CIN3 in her twenties. Her later infertility resulted in part from scarring of the cervix from cone biopsies, as her CIN spread into her endocervical canal.

She conceived through IVF, however.

This is why if you've been treated for dysplasia, you should be tested annually.

Dysplasia tends to be slow growing, however, but smear tests are quite effective at catching it in early stages.

what expat said

remember the colposcope is just a big microscopic camera so they can paint stuff on your cervix to check what's going on because the Pap is just an initial test that can be wrong

also remember this is NOT cancer .. this is just a result that shows that the cells MAY have changed slightly and in 10 to 20 years MAY develop into something

With CIN1 they just ignore it and it can go away .. as the cells change anyway naturally

Leonie79, I had CIN2-3 earlier in the year and had LLETZ. I am currently waiting for the results of a follow up smear. As I have been very nervous, I too kept searching for info and found problems getting exactly what I was looking for. (My anxiety related to having more children as I lost a pregnancy in August and would love to conceive again). I found a website 'Jo's Trust' which is very helpful. It is for women suffering from cervical cancer and pre-cancerous conditions. There is a very helpful bulletin board where you can chat to other people affected and also a medical panel that you can email questions to. You mail your questions and get a response back from experts in a few days. The response I got was very helpful. The address is:

www.jotrust.co.uk
