underactive thyroid and low milk supply?

has anyone out there ever heard of an underactive thyroid being linked to a low milk supply? i was unsuccessful feeding dd although i managed to feed ds till he was 6 months.i asked my thyroid consultant but he said he had never heard of it.

I have an underactive thyroid and have read up a lot about it, but I've never heard of that. If your thyroid consultant hasn't heard of it then there's a pretty good chance that there's no link, and it's just a co-incidence.

agree wtih WWB, I have one two and milk supply was never affected wither before or after diagnosis and treatment

mmm. i read it on the internet somewhere, some thyroid doc in america,perhaps im looking for some sort of explaination as to why it did'nt work as good as the time before...

Seriously, I wouldn't let it worry you. Sometimes bfing works, sometimes it doesn't, and very often there's no real reason why.

I think this has been mentioned before on Mumsnet, I remember because I have low thyroid too.. Try searching the archives and see if something comes up.
