My dh has had the op but we only got the small print when they gave him the paperwork afterwards! It says he has to have a minimum of 20 ejaculations before they'll test him, and that he can't be tested until February. After four children, I was rather looking forward to relaxing my guard a bit, and there's something very clinical about keeping score. I understand why the delay, but does anyone know if 20 is normal, or on the ultra safe side, and if tests can be carried out privately anywhere? Anyone else had to do this?

arrhhh I remember when my dad had his he was told to come back in 3 mths or 20 ejaculations whichever came first (scuse the pun never realised it at the time time being 8)
I hate my mother for telling me these things....

It took my DH - something like 9 tests to be clear (first one after 3 months) but it was well over a year until he was clear

Dh has said it was 12 tests and 15 months.

His best friend thought it was a right lark - laughing at him being "very potent"

My friend's DH had this advice - she just packed him off regularly to the loo with a box of kleenex

Don't be tempted to have unprotected intercourse till you get the all clear.

My dh was told 20 ejaculations before testing. He asked if the test sample could have saliva in it .

dh had the op and was tested 12 and 16 weeks later. both tests read that there was still a high count.he has just done 2 more samples and we are now 10 months after the op, havnt got the results yet.guess what? im pg with no 4. he says he'll have it done again if it has'nt worked but the doc says this is very unlikely, just that he has'nt got all the little blighters out of his system yet!well im running out of bedrooms/car space/finances so it better work soon!

OMG - I am so showing this thread to dh!! He is convinced he's clear and is getting on my nerves! He's only done one test - it was a couple of weeks ago now and it was 12 weeks after the op. We've not heard anything yet and he has to do another at 16 weeks.

I'm not taking any risks - I got pregnant at the first attempt with all 3 kids - I think we only have to pass on the stairs!

We didn't get the '20 ejaculations' bit - just that the test had to be taken no more no more than 6 days since the last one and no less than 3 or something.

I will! I do not want another!!

After reading these posts I am panicking now as DP had the snip about 18 months ago now and never bothered getting the results!!! He just couldn't be bothered. I keep saying we will never know for sure if he has got any lead in his pencil but he keeps saying to me "well if you get pregnant then I want a DNA test". Cheeky shit!!!

Crazydazy, he can get tested any time, I think. Bubblepop, all I can say is OMG! Mymama , but seriously, I can't get over the number that need more than two tests. I think Mears is right, I'm not taking any chances. It's wearing me out though , at our normal rate after 4 kids we'd never complete 20 in three months!
