Insomnia - any have it or know anything about it?

I'm worried about DW. I'll search for some more info on the net but she's just not sleeping.

The little sleep she does get is restless and she's up every 10 minutes tossing and turning.

she went to bed last night at about 10:30 and didn't get to sleep until about 4am! ... and I'm not quite sure how she's doing right now. I had to go in with ds because he's got a high temp and I've got up with him so I hope she's alone in bed fast asleep but I doubt it very much.

Her problem is that she keeps thinking repetative things over and over again - songs, shows (like thomas the tank engine!) and worries constantly about insignificant stuff.

is this insomnia?

There are threads on here with advice - do a search on sleep / insomnia etc and you'll find it.

Hope ds is feeling better this morning and that dw managed to get a better night last night.

it's bad. really bad. she just isn't sleeping and i would be surprised if she gets any more than 4 hrs each night. i know some nights are only 2 hours and she's miserable.

This sounds just like me. I'd like to know what the answer is too. I went to bed last night at about 11, woke up at 1am and ended up on the computer because it was better than just lying in bed waiting for sleep to come - which it doesn't. Went back to bed at 5.30am and I think I must have fallen asleep at some point only to be woken up by DS1 shouting at some game he was playing on the computer.

This has been going on for weeks. I think that it has become a habit which I can't break. I'm like a zombie the following day and, of course, spend much of my time shouting at the children because I'm so exhausted.

One answer could be to get sleeping tablets from your gp just for a few nights to break the habit. Once she is out of the habit, her sleep patterns might revert to normal.

I read somewhere to get up if you are awake..dont lay in bed trying to sleep! Get up do something maybe have a warm drink then go back to bed! I did it for a bit used to often iron at 3am!!!

I developed this over the last 6-8 weeks and I resorted to get a really mild sleeping tablet from the doctor and it really helps. I've only taken them on two nights and if I didn't have children I might have persevered down the more 'natural' route. But us mums of young children NEED OUR SLEEP so would highly recommend she talks to her GP.
It's interesting though about the cause of this insomnia. Never had it pre-kids and have the same as your DW - just a buzzing mind, not depressed or anything. My theory is that you are on such low level alert all day with little ones (I've got 3) that despite being tired the old brain is still whirring. Hope she sleeps better soon.
