It's tendonitis most of the time - the tendons around the elbow are inflamed. Sometimes it's bursitis - fluid filled pouches are the joint, called bursae, become inflamed. I bought a product called 'Band-It' that helped SO much. It's an arm band that puts pressure on the area and helps a lot. I found it online, but the company I bought it from is not longer in business. I'm sure you can find it, though.

If the pain gets too bad take an ibuprofen or two w/plenty of water.

I still get tendonitis in my right knee, but I only got it in my elbow when I was doing a lot of rock climbing.

I'm different from the norm, codface, that I've always known. 'Tamum' has met me, though, in RL. She is one amazing lady!

I haven't had hydrocortisone injections, no. My ortho surgeon in the US didn't like to give them out unless necessary, b/c they can cause long-term damage to the joint if used too often. My dad had them, though, for bursitis in the shoulder and they worked a treat for him.

Ask to be prescribed physio. The tendonitis in my right knee was the worst after I had a ligament reconstruction following an accident. The leg muscles had atrophied, so the tendon was taking the brunt of movement and got inflamed.

If you have tendonitis, it's important to try to build up the tiny muscles that surround the joint and hopefully take some of the stress off the tendon. A physio can help w/this.

Tendons can sometimes suffer from poor circulation. Exercise can help bring fresh blood to the area.

I used a combination of heat and cold to help w/the pain. I bought one of those gel packs you can heat or chill from a sporting goods store and used it as needed. I let the body be my guide as to which to use.

Don't be discouraged! Tendonitis, bursitis and other soft tissue problems can last a while and be quite stubborn.

But there is hope!

No cartilage hurts like hell! I am missing most of the meniscus in my left knee - same accident that tore my anterior cruciate ligament and dislocated my knee cap in the right - and 9 years on it's STILL painful.

There's a ortho surgeon in Aspen, CO who can replace it - he harvests a small amount of normal cartilage from a healthy area of one's body, sends it to some lab in Sweden where they grow more cartilage for ya, then Dr. Stedman fills in where it's missing in your knees. He will only do it on patients who do not yet have osteoarthritis yet, however.

A pal of mine had it.

But she is rich and the procedure is considered 'experimental' so she paid for it from her own purse.

It cost her about £15,000.
