I have been looking after a child for a little while now and to be honest, if they were mine I would be a tad worried. They just strike me as being different, not that there is anything wrong with being different, but I just have a niggle in the back of my head.

The child is nearly 4 and goes to nursery school. Surely the staff would have picked up on this wouldnt they - if they thought something wasnt quite right!?

The child does not (to me) seem to respond and my nearly 3 year old seems much more advanced. Maybe the child is just a slow developer! They like to play on their own really and their language skills are not great.

Do you think I have anything to be concerned about? Obviously I dont want to mention it to the parents just yet.

TIA

It may well be a language issue, it may be something else. Only a specialst can give a diagnosis of autism, the school couldn't, they might have concerns, but they couldn't give a dx.

I guess so.

Do you think I should just leave it a while and see how they get on?

Might just be a temp glitch and I'm worrying about nothing (as usual!)

I would suggest you re-post this on the special needs thread and put a shout out especially for jimjams- she always gives excellent Autism advice

If you go to by topic, it's about eighth down under 'being a parent'. I'm forever losing it tho- can't find anything one day to the next!

well musiclover, they sort of speak with short sharp words as opposed to sentences and they tend to repeat what other people say. Its quite hard to explain really. They also have the same phrases which they repeat. They also refer to themselves in the third person.
