Scared to have smear test

Im due to have a smear test at my 6week check, as i was meant to have one just before Xmas, i didnt want to have to wait for results etc over Xmas, and in Jan, realised i was preg etc, so they couldnt do it!
However, im scared still to have it in a months time!
I had internals while trying to be induced before i gave birth to my dd a week later!! I was in agony with them, and still was in labour when they had to do a number of internals for medical reasons.
How can i explain my fears to the Dr??

Why not say what you just told us; you had very painful internals during labour & you're still traumatised. Just make an appointment to talk about it, first. Just talking about it with a sympathetic GP might help you get to the point where you can brave it again.

Agree with freakyzebra, but whatever you do, don't put it off altogether. Have you had a smear test before?

hi jofe, i too was due for a smear (my very first at the age of 26 ) but i too found out i was preg and i got away with it not that its really anything to smile about as its stupid not to have a smear.... anyhoo....i had to have one at my 6 week check (last feb) and honestly, they whipped it in and out after the internal and I honestly didnt know they had even done it.....i'm not sure if thats because i had just had a baby () lol, only kidding, but seriously, please don't worry about it...they WILL understand you have not long had a baby and things may still be tender. HTH because i worried like crazy and I really shouldnt have as it was over in 2 seconds.

I was due to have mine and then was pregnant with ds3. when i booked for one i was told to wait until ds3 was 6 months old if i was feeding and 4 months if i wasn't as the hormones can give false readings. may be worth checking by phoning the nurse direct as different rules may apply for different health centres.

I was like you - I needed to have gas and air to get through the exams in the induction

I was dreading my recent smear test because it was painful the two times before. I put it off for months and worked my self into a very bad mood before it - but amazingly it was fine - didn't hurt at all . I don't know if it was because they used plastic instruments (metal in previous tests), or the breathing techniques I used during labour (useful at the dentist too !).
