Just wondered if this affects anyone else, and what does and doesn't help in your experience?

Yes - I had this with all three pregnancies and sympathise hugely. There's been a thread recently about this - will have a look.
Best tip I got apart from trying not to do anything which aggravates the joint (totally impossible), is to put a plastic bag on your car seat and use it to swivel both legs around together when getting in or out of it. That one really works. Also not slouching on the sofa which is ok until you try to get up - this was the point where I had the most pain! I couldn't move. How long have you got to go? Giving birth really is the only true relief for this problem, although I still get occasional twinges.

OMG! I must admit I do still get pain too, but it is only occasional now. Have you seen anyone about this recently?

hi twirlaround I started the other thread on this. I had it from 15 weeks last pregnancy and this one. Last pregnancy was told it was SPD and there was nothing they could do this time midwives have said they will refer me later on in the pregnancy (I'm 26 weeks now) have my booking in appt in 2 weeks so will discuss it then (have moved area hence late booking in appt).

If it's any consilation the pain went the minute the baby was delivered practically. It's really painful this time but I find it worse at night as during the day I'm very active chasing after a toddler but at night if I sit down it's agony. Also lifting DD upstairs can be sore as well. I find 2 paracetamol and a bath at night helps as well.

I would speak to your midwife about physio next time you are there.

Thanks for the link!
Have tried loads of stuff over the last 18 months - accupuncture, chiropractor, pilates, deep tissue massage, GP and physio!

Pilates & massage seem to help the most but I am trying an osteo this week for the first time...

I have spent enough to pay for a few holidays already though

i dislocated my sacro iliac joint when i smashed up my pelvis at 13. Tens machine saves me usually, but during my pregnancy i couldn't use it. Last few weeks very painful but could see the end in sight if you know what i mean!

my top tip for anyone pregnant if they still have trouble after the birth is to do something about it straightaway! But fingers crossed you won't need that tip!

I had SPD during my last pregnancy from quite early on. By the end I was on crutches but ditched them the moment my Ds was born as it felt so much better.
However 6 months down the line I was still getting some discomfort if I overdid things or with some movements ( eg. when you stand on 1 leg to shave your legs in the shower!!). I started Pilates at that point just to tone up a bit but have found that its helped with the SPD "aftermath". I only go once a week (and occasionally will do an hour at home, but only very occasionally) but that seems to be enough. I guess as pilates concentrates on strengthening your core muscles its working on the right areas.

Another thought...not sure if it would help or not but how about Bowen Technique? Thats used in a lot of sports injuries -its basically a manipulation of ligaments and muscles in order to reposition and re-align.

Will check out the Bowen technique if the osteo doesn't work!
