chicken pox

My twin boys woke up this morning with chicken pox. They seem fine , ie no fever , have their appetite, they were also fine before the spots arrived. is this a good sign for the next few days? Does anyone know if there is a link between how a child is feeling and the number of spots they get. The doctor said that they could get a few crops of spots over the next few days or there could be only one. How long did you keep your children off school? the doctor said they are infectious until the blisters get scabs on them and then they can go back although as he said that they were more infectious before they got the spots anyway and its better that children get the thing young. Its selfish but i dont want them to miss too much school as they are just settling in and we have parent teacher interviews in a fortnight and I would like the teacher to see a bit more of what they can do before then. Would it be too optimistic to hope that they would be back before the end of the week if its a mild dose?.

your doctor is right they need to be kept away until all the pox scab over

they get another dose of pox breaking out on day 3 btw

but sounds like they should be fine

if they get itchy luke-warm baths run through a sock full of oats helps

I don't think there is necessarily a correlation between how well they feel and number of spots. dd didn't have many spots but the first 5 were particularly nasty and she still has marks 3 months later although she was fine in herself. ds had loads in comparison but no scars and was more tired than usual but otherwise fine. Agree thta the spots will appear in batches over the next few days and they take a few days to crust over. It took the at least a week for ours to recover sufficiently to socialise, dd was off playgroup for about 10 days.

Hopefully your boys will be fine and would probably be ok by a week on Monday to return to school, but Friday I'd say is optimistic.

First couple of days with mine were ok and not too many spots, but got worse and ended up covered in them. I kept mine at home for 5 days + weekend.
