ok apart from all the usual health reasons for your baby and you (although these are by far the most important). Smoking can give you untreatable gum disease which loosens your teeth (happening to my friend now), gives you all sorts of wrinkles you wouldn't otherwise get, makes your skin lacklustre and wan and gives you those awful tiny lines round your mouth that makes your lipstick bleed so much that you look like a road traffic victim.

Bit of withdrawal vs. being told you have lung cancer.

Hmmmm

(and yes, just a few is enough to give you all sorts of nastiness, it's not just reserved for the 40 a day brigade).

Smoking Kills one in three people who do it.

the 'lucky' ones who does die have a raised risk of

Blindness
Dementia due to stokes
Double amputation of the limbs (single biggest cause in the UK at present)
Tooth decay and gum disease
Wrinkles
Impotence (in men...single bigest cause in the uk)
MC , stillbirth and small for dates babies in women
Chronic emphysemia
Heart disease

Oh and no money

And for the green among you one in every three trees cut down (which adds to global warming) is done to support the tobacco industry.

Go for it and good luck!

know someone who lost a leg aged 53 from smoking

i smoked 20 a day for nearly 20 years. gave up 18 months ago and wish i'd tried earlier. just get over the first few days, you know you can, and DON'T START AGAIN

People who don't smoke know that those who do:
a) smell
b) are a bit stupid
c) are poor.

It's the biggest non-genetic cause of age-related macular degeneration - ie you could lose your sight.

And it really is dreadful for your skin.

Um, you become infertile sooner. Vastly increases the risk of miscarriage. Other people will think you stink.

(Mind you ds told me my mouth smelled horrible today - rushed off to floss and brush and swill with mouthwash. Verdict? "Lovely, mummy" Whew.)

Oh god, yes, a friend of mine lost her legs in an horrific accident. But all the other people on her amputation ward were smokers...

there are a few fellow smokers/nonsmokers over here to chat to it your time of need...often the subjects there at a glance are NOTHING to do with smoking but we do offer support :)
