DD2 has had pretty severe diarrhoea for nearly 3 weeks now. Sorry if this is tmi, but when she goes she passes large quantities of fluid. This happens about 5 or 6 times a day, and often during the night too. She is also being sick, although only once or twice a day.

As you can imagine, she's getting pretty exhausted. I can tell by the waistbands of her clothes that she has lost a fair bit of weight- pants which did fit her nicely now have a gap of about an inch and a half. Her hands used to be plump but now are scrawny. Her bones are sticking out all over, especially on her hips and back.

I've been to the doctors twice, and not got very far. Last time they asked for a stool sample, which we are waiting for the results of. I'm just so worried about her, and would appreciate any help or advice.

if u think she has a tummy bug have you tried starving her and giving her nothing but dioralite, for at least 12 hours.

Try her on ordinary coke - in a cup - take the fizz out of it by microwaving it first for about 30 seconds, then cool it down. You can dilute the coke with a little boiled water if you like. Don't give her anything else to eat or drink. Try that overnight tonight - not forgetting to brush her teeth afterwards. Coke is very good at providing necessary sugars and electrolytes and amazingly good with stopping diarrhoea; don't know why.

Ifg that doesn't do the trick; go back to the doctors and jump up and down.

We tried the starving and dioralite/coke method at first, and it absolutely no difference. Our doctor has prescribed several medicines that are supposed to stop the diarrhoea, but nothing is working.

We are beginning to wonder if she has developed another allergy or intolerance

I would def get this checked out further...very unusual for a tummy bug to last that long......Even the nasty 'Nor' viruses (cause severe/violent D&V) usually only last 7 days or so...

I have just been to the docs about DS - he has had diarroreah for 10 days or so that has got much worse the last couple of days - large amounts of watery fluid and undigested food.

I have to take a stool sample tomorrow and start him on diaoralyte as he is starting to get dehydrated.

Its horrible isnt it
