dh has had a bad cough and wheezing for about 3-4 weeks now and went to doctors last week. Doctor told him he had a lung infection and gave him some antibiotics to try and clear them up. Wheezing has subsided a bit but cough has not but at the doctors tonight he told him it wasn't much better and prescribed some stronger antibiotics and referred him for a chest xray tomorrow to try and rule out pneumonia etc.
I am worried that th "etc" is lung cancer. All I can think about is my dad's best friend who died from it after it started with just a cough.
Do I have something to worry about or just being paranoid as 10 wks pg!
Internet has similar symptoms between both.

I can understand your worry, it is hard not to isn't it? In all probablilty your dh just has a bad chest infection....that is the most likley cause.

Lung cances do cause a cough but far more poeple get coughs and chest infections than lung cancer. you dh's doc is being a good doc.

If he smokes, this would be a great time to quit....if he doesn't smoke then lung cancer is exceptionally rare

no he doesn't smoke. he is overweight and drinks maybe more than he should but he has always been sporty until recently when he has put weight on. My dad's friend didn't smoke either.

Is it pleurisy by any chance? Has he had a lot of stress?
I'm sure he'll be better soon and then you can stop worrying so much.

A friend's dh had similar symptoms and he had bronchiostasis.

Lung cancer is very rare in people that don't smoke, your friends father was very unlucky.

Over wieght leaves him open to things like heart probelms and some cancers of the gut, but no added risk to lung cancer. the drinking, in modersation whould have no effect on any cancer. In alcoholics rare cances get a bit more common, but it doesn't add to the risk of lung cancer.

Please try not to worry. I'm sure it is just an infection. I know what it is like to be a worrier, but I'm sure it is nothing serious

My dh had same symptoms when our eldest was a baby - it turned out to be bronchitus - he had to have a steriod inhaler (like an asthma inhaler) - and the cough went on for a few months (he was off work for a month and in bed for a lot of that).
