sorry about this....I had it fitted 5 days ago and am still getting cramp-like pains - some are a bit sharper than period pains, which I don't normally get anyway, some of it is more of an all-over achey period like feeling. Also (sorry this is the graphic bit) I'm getting a bit of bleeding but it's a bit wierd - it's not particularly bloody, it's mucusy and a bit brownish, which is sprt of what I get at the beginning of a period, Is this normal?

Morning, yes it is and without frightening you it may get a little worse. I had it fitted 3 weeks ago and was in agony for about a week afterwards but the pain does seem to have settled down now although I do now get cramps all through the day but not so severe, just a bad one now and again. With regards to the bleeding everyone is different but I have bled quite heavily since day one, as if I have got my period. My period is due today and the trouble is now I cannot tell whether it has come or not because of the constant cramps and constant bleeding. I cannot tell which is the period and which is the every day bleeding and cramping. Apparently it can take about 3 weeks or so to settle down but I would suggest it the pain does get really bad, get in touch with the clinic that fitted it and they may be able to check you over to make sure everything is okay. A couple of weeks ago I was convinced I was going to go have it removed but now I am going to give it a bit longer to see if it settles completely. Hope this helps, Louise

thanks Louise. It's been a week now and I'm still not feeling quite right. Bleeding bit seems to have stopped but am pretty permanently crampy - it's all round my middle and my back too - like period pain I guess. The irony is that this was meant to make sex more likely! well so far it has spectacularly failed. Fingers crossed it will settle down - hope yours does too

Hi Hat, mine does seem to have settled down. Bleeding has just about stopped completely apart from the occasional bit of spotting. I have been pain free for quite a few days now. Just after I posted my first bit of advice to you my pain seemed to settle down and has been fine ever since. I think we just have to give our bodies time to get accustomed, it is a foreign body after all and I dont think it would be quite normal for our bodies to just accept something like this without a little bit of a protest.

Hi again. well, sin some respects it seems better but now I have really sore boobs! never really had that - with my periods or when pregnant. And it's a complete nightmare - putting me off sex totally. dh is not a happy bunny! am really hoping it settles down soon. I agree with you that it's unsuprising atht it takes a while
