DS (4) is complaining of a sore tongue and I looked and he seems to have some little red raised blisters. Any ideas? He is hungry but says it hurts when he eats.

Mouth ulcers?

I had something like that once and it was a viral thing. It was actually very painful. I would take him to the dr if it doesn't clear up.

Monstermum - My ds had this and then developed tiny blisters on his hands and feet....... Yup it was Hand, Foot and Mouth! There's no treatment for it as its viral..... he wasn't ill as such, but he lost weight coz it hurt to eat.

It cleared up after about 5 days. Have you had a look at his hands and feet (in between fingers and toes!)?

my dd had hand foot and mouth too , she had a rash on her hands and her buttocks too. She was quite poorly with it, sore throat and temperature too.

Sympathy though as it was very painful.

There's a mouth ulcery virus doing the rounds and it's HORRID. We've all had it here except dh.

I had a lot of relief from the homeopathic remedy sulphur - within an hour or two of taking it, I felt much more comfortable, within about 24hrs it felt comfortable enough to eat properly again and by 48hours only had a couple of sores left. There's lots of different remedies for mouth ulcers depending on the exact symptoms though so it's worth talking it through with him so you're more likely to pick the right one.

OH MY GOODNESS! I have had terrible mouth ulcers for a week now and sore bits on my tongue like I've burned it but haven't! And a disgusting metallic taste too for about a week! I had actually started blaming it on the Mirena Coil!!! So it could have been viral??? PHEW! I also had myself convinced I was getting mouth cancer or something really sinister.

Thanks everyone. We are in Budapest so homeopathy difficult - will try to find one who speaks English.

Have given him Nurofen so far - poor thing is hungry but everything hurts. Opened a can of creamed rice I had in the back of the cupboard but he refused to even try it! DH so he can try>

Hi All

My first time posting, so hope I get it right!

My DD is just recovering from this now. She didn't have a fever but the spots were there and apart from being a bit clingy, she was ok. Once the spots started to fade though she suddenly started sticking her wee tongue out and pulling it, (she's 12 months) so that's when I noticed the redness. She's also had a runny nose - did anyone else experience that, or is it just the ever-present cold she seems to have in addition to this horrible virus?

Last night I thought her breathing had become a bit rapid, but I wonder if it's just first time mum paranoia? She's certainly full of beans today, so I'm borderline about taking her to doc.
