Recipe of the week

penguinmum's creamy fish pie: smoky, seasonal fish in a creamy white sauce with grated, rather than mashed, tatties on top - a meal of the highest comfort-food order.

edam - is it working properly, now ?

Just curious as there was someone else asking recently about their wireless network blocking some websites, but not all (eg MN!)

Well, if you can be bothered it's worth creating another user account on the Mac (go to System Preferences and to Accounts which is at the bottom left) and switching to that user, then seeing if the problem is the same. This will tell you if the problem is in your user cache or something to do with the operating system. You can delete the other user afterwards, although it won't take up much space.

Also switch your internet router off for at least 20 minutes, if you haven't recently, in case it's got its knickers in a twist.
Thanks - think I am, I get notices about software updates for the Mac and for Firefox and always install. But will go back and check.

Are you fully up to date? It may be that thee web sites use some technology that your setup doesn't support any more. Do you run Software Update to keep Mac OS X up to date? And do you have the latest version of Firefox, which is 3.5? That may be it.
Would be v. grateful for any suggestions. For some weeks now I've been unable to load ds's school website or get on the National Lottery site. They start loading but never actually get anywhere. Am also having this problem with some other sites but not ones I'm that bothered about or use regularly - just when I'm following links. Can use MN, obv, and everything else...

Am on an elderly-ish Mac laptop (OSX) running Firefox (and have tried doing it in Safari just in case but that doesn't work either).

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)
For a big grin, , type [grin] or :o
For a wink, , type [wink]
For a shocked face, , type [shock]
For an angry face, , type [angry]
For an embarrassed face, , type [blush]
For a sad face, , type [sad] or :(
For an envious face, , type [envy]
For a sceptical face, , type [hmm]
For a no comment face, , type [biscuit]

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
