Have finally got round to buying my laptop and now I'm not sure what to do about the internet.

Do I just phone up my internet provider and tell them I've got a new lap top and want to install them on it?
will they send me a disk and a router?
If they do that will I still be able to use the broadband on the desktop computer or will I need to open a new account?

I have found the disk they sent me when I upgraded the desk top computer to broadband, my brother said to install this on the laptop but I don't know if that would acheive anything since the laptop is wireless, although it did come with a moden cable.

Oh dear, can you tell I'm not very technical?

Please advise me on what I'm supposed to do, thank you

Ok. Plug the cable into the back of the laptop and see what happens. With some IP you don't need to use the disk so try this first. Have you tried switching it on to wireless (button on the side) to see if you are picing up a neighbours signal?

When I click the wireless button it does pick up something but it's locked and I can't connect to it.

Just pop the cable which connects your modem into the back of yor laptop and pop the disk in.

Let's be a bit more technical here. If it's an Ethernet cable you can probably just plug it in. you probably don't need the ISP's setup disk. If it's a USB cable you may need the extra software.

ok, I tried to install the broadband disk, to install the modem drivers, that I already have and followed the directions, connected the modem wire and it didn't work.

I think I;ll need a more up to date disk so I'll give them a call ask them for one.

thanks anyway
