Just normal text to normal phone. I do remember vaguely that this has happened top me in the past.

defo piratecat. I was texting a neighbour (!) one day who lives 10 yards from me, makikng some arrangements. One of the texts sent in the middle of the exchange didn't arrive until 3am in the morning

yes it is one reason for not leaving the phone on overnight..getting woken up by some inane text sent 18 hours earlier at 4 am

and then you tell the sender and they get mortified

Yes, happens to me a lot. Not so much that my texts don't send, but my boyfriend has sent me texts that have never arrived. He then texts to say "Oi, why aren't you talking to me?!" I then explain I haven't had a message! They often never arrive, but sometimes come ages later.

It is extremely rare for them just to disappear into mobile space, but due to congestion/receipient being area of poor coverage they can be delayed.

I think this is something that needs to be sorted. I remember that poor woman who was murdered, she texted for help and it was hours and hours later that it arrived. Too late by then.

It's not a guaranteed delivery service and yes they do occasionally get lost in space, but it's generally fairly reliable.
