Can I play an MPEG4 file in Media player? If so, how?

I don't want to have to use iTunes. Is that really the only way?

It's definitely not the only way. You can get Windows Media Player to play MP4s and I'm sure there are other players for that format.

I didn't think it was a video but maybe it is. It plays in iTunes fine but I hate iTunes and want to put it with the rest of my music (Media Player)

I'm not good with this techy stuff

dp says if it is an audio file he would use Foobar

he also suggested Windows Media Player

It won't play in Media Player, that's the problem. I want it to but it won't and I don't know how to make it. The link talks about splitting the file but it sound complicated and like I need to download something. Yikes.
