Grrrrrrrrr, Hotmail ate my e-mails!

I've signed into hotmail today and all of a sudden loads of my e-mails are missing. It looks like every e-mail I've received since 9th january has gone. What on earth do I do to get them back? I haven't deleted them and they aren't sat in the deleted folder so I can only assume that Hotmail has eaten them.

all I can think of is:

1. you're listing them in reverse order and it only looks like they are gone.
   
   
2. you created a new hotmail in jan and just accidentally logged into the old one.

I've tried to reverse the order a few times and they never re-appear. This is the only hotmail account I've ever had. I have tried contacting hotmail but don't have a clue how much help this is going to be as the hotmail help is the least helpful help I've ever come across.
