I used one of those adware removers and now, every time I start up the pc I get this message:-

RUNDLL
ERROR LOADING C:\PROGRAM(FILE NAME ETC).DLL
THE SPECIFIED MODULE COULD NOT BE FOUND

There are a lot of places where an autorun can be set up. Difficult to know where to start. How do you feel about editing the registry?

To begin with look on the Start Menu in All Programs - Startup

Anything in there you don't recognise?

Now Start Menu - Run and type msconfig
That brings up a program. Click on the startup tab and see if you recognise the file name in there.

I'll be thinking about the next step

In this instance it's safe to post the actual path and filename that it's asking for and maybe we can find out more about it.

Thanks for replying.

ok, its not within Start menu/Allprograms/Startup.

I ran msconfig and it is there, within startup

The actual path and file name is this "C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\M3PLUGUN.DLL"

the command next to the file within msconfig/startup is "rundll32 C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch\bar\1.bin\MP3PLUGIN.DLL,UPF"

ok good. You can untick it and it will stop trying to load it. You can probably remove it, but for now let's be cautious.

If you then restart windows (it will ask you to) it will pop up a box saying that it's in a special mode. You tick that box and click ok and it won't mention it again.

I imagine that the folder C:\Program Files\MyWebSearch is completely gone. Deleted as spyware. You might want to have a look.

Btw you got it by installing the "MyWebSearch" toolbar in case you should encounter it again.

MyWebSearch is not totally evil in that it doesn't set out to erase your files or anything, but it's probably best avoided.

You're welcome

For anyone who might read this who doesn't find the culprit in either of those two places I recommend this sysinternals utility

It's called autoruns and shows every place on your PC that a program can be set to autorun. There are more than you think.
