My Mouse Is Frozen! (wonder if i'd get more replies if I put this in the 'Pets' topic......)

Ds was tap-tapping away on my laptop and now my mouse pad thingy doesn't work so I can't do ANYTHING on it at all.

I'm writing this from DPs laptop (checked in Help but nothing) It's horrible - all full of crumbs and dust, it smells a bit too I think, of sugary tea.......

Anyway, the point is that I need help to get my mouse working before I catch some sort of D&V bug from this one.

I'm assuming it's just a case of pressing a button? or combination of buttons?

Thank you oh-geeky-ones.

you need to press the windows key to get the start menu up then go to control panel.

Select you mouse using the arrow keys then tab thru the options until you find a button for enable device.

Mine does that too for some reason.

No, it's no good.

I can scroll through some pages using the arrow keys, but not, apparently, the page with the mouse options on it

I'm thinking there must be a fast key for this because I cant see how else Ds coiuld have disabled it.

I could be wrong of course....

OK, do you mean your MOUSE, or your TOUCH PAD? is it part of the laptop or separate?

TOUCHPAD

(Fingers crossed, Lapin sounds like she means business..)

you should be able to by using the tab key - its the only way I can ever get it to work again. Or you can restart - mine normally starts again when I restart.

If it's your touchpad, have a look at the buttons labelled F1 F2 etc - one of those may disable/enable the touchpad. (If I was at work I could tell you which one it might be, but my home laptop has a separate switch for it)

You don't have Scroll Lock on, do you?

ChopsterRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 10/12/2007 18:24

i had a google and it says FN and either f7 or f9, but I neither works on mine.

Had a quick google & Fn -F9 & Fn- F7 seem to be the most common ones

DingDongJeremyOnVile · 10/12/2007 18:25

I have restarted, it didn't help.
f1 and f2 are for other things.

What is scroll lock?

How do I know if my scroll is locked?

What laptop is it?

If you press Caps Lock, a small light should come on somewhere. Is there another light on there? Mine looks like a little lock with a down arrow on it.

Its an acer.

Yes I see the caps lock light - padlock with A on it. next to that is a padlock with a 1 on it, I assume thats the scroll lock. The light is not on.

Are you pressing just the F9 key, or are you holding down the Fn key (it may have blue text on it, bottom left possibly) at the same time?

Is it a Travelmate?

"When using an external mouse, you can disable the touchpad by pressing Fn-F7. If you want to use an external PS/2 mouse, first enable the touchpad, connect the external PS/2 mouse, then disable the touchpad if necessary."
