Smart phones - Samsung or other? Screen mirroring and other issues

I'm looking to upgrade my Samsung S3 which I've owned for two years now. Considering either the Samsung S5 or latest HTC (can't remember model number). Avoiding iPhone purely for the premium you pay for Apple products, and the fact that it's a bit restrictive.

I love that the S3 meets my smart phone needs, and for what it can't do there's a reasonably good app store. However I find the S3 achingly slow. I've had a more tech-savvy friend look at it to see if I am using it inefficiently. She agrees it's slow - as compared with her iPhone - but inefficient use doesn't seem to be the problem.

One big plus for Samsung is that I can mirror my handset's screen on my Samsung smart TV. Not sure if that would work on a non-Samsung phone.

So all you wise people - should I go for the Samsung S5 so it works with the Samsung TV? Or assume that Samsung handsets are slow and go for HTC?

I have a Samsung S5 and I absolutely love it! And I had an iPhone before. It doesn't lag at all, battery lasts far longer than iPhone and the camera is fantastic. Smile

The S3 is two and a half years old now which is ancient for a smart phone. It's also likely to show down over time with use (have your tried a factory reset?).

I'd stick with Samsung and go with the S5

Pretty sure Samsung and Apple are two mentioned on a Smart TV report by Which? as being the only two which didn't use a more 'open' standard - so you would be best with a Samsung mobile for interacting with the TV.

Being nosy for a second, what model TV did you get (I'm tempted to get a Samsung phone in future, or perhaps get my sister's if she upgrades). Also (even more nosy) - what will you do with the S3 ? (I am currently considering some of the Motorola range as new, certain models are 150 or less).

I'd go HTC, great phones.
Slim, fast, good camera, not glitchy.

Last time I looked they were top of the tech reviews.

Recently upgraded from s2 to s5, still getting to grips with everything it can do but am impressed so far.

From the responses, looks like HTC and Samsung both are very good. NetworkGuy, not sure what model it is (am currently on holiday, so can't check) - it's a 42" one Blush with 3D, if that helps. Haven't really given a thought to the old handset, might keep it as a spare. Or might sell but am not in UK.
Anyone know how we can mirror screen from non-Samsung phone to Samsung TV?
