I'm planning to get an iphone in the autumn and want to give it a decent chance of survival.

The lifeproof cases aren't at all cheap but they look like they might be worth it. Are they are robust as they're cracked up to be?

DH has one - and though it hasn't been dunked in water or smashed too hard anywhere, it has allowed him to remain relaxed and calm when the toddler decides to have a play. Grin

Yep, that's partly why I want one. The dc's are older, 7 & 5, but I'll get them some apps and I don't have 100% confidence in them to not do something silly.

I have a lifeproof case on my iPad. I really like it, it's chunky, has a really useful stand on it, and it feels reassuringly tough.

I would NEVER EVER NEVER assume it's waterproof though (although they say it is). I've read too many reviews on the Lifeproof FB page where people post things like: "Day 1 of our holiday, snorkelling in the Bahamas. Look at the video we shot on our iPad under 5' of water. Thanks Lifeproof! Day 2: Check out our video taken in a sandstorm! iPad totally fine! Awesome! Day 3: We just went snorkelling again and after 10 seconds in the shallow end, the iPad died. Completely dead. You f*king F*kers give us our money back and buy us a new iPad"

I might get a lifeproof case for my iPhone too. I'd allowed myself to be talked into getting an Otterbox case instead. My brother swore it was indestructible. Weird, then, how I took the Otterbox case off the other day to lend it to my son, and found the back of my iPhone a shattered mess of broken glass.

So yes, I love lifeproof. Expensive but (fingers crossed) worth it.

I'm not daft enough to take it swimming (who are these silly people!). TBH I don't believe it's totally waterproof either, as long as it protects from a split second splash or dunk I'll be happy.

My blackberries have been dropped so many times and never broken. I've got to get my head around a smash-able screen.

I have a Lifeproof case for my iPhone and also iPad. They are amazing and also in our case definitely waterproof. Proved by my speedy two year old running past me and throwing the iPad into the bath. They do say to test each case first, by assembling and placing in water before the phone is added.
Love mine, would recommend them to everyone!

I've done the waterproofing tests, but I didn't trust them. I always worry that yes, it might have been waterproof for the test piece, but won't be for the iPad.

And once, my test left the entire case FLOODED. When I could see no reason for it. I did about 50 tests. The first one was completely dry inside, but the following ones weren't.

I do, it's pretty good and has managed to withstand the repeated destruction attempts of 3 toddlers though the sound quality does suffer a little!

My iPhone is currently encased in one. It saved my phone when I mistakenly put it in a vase of water. My phone has also survived a fall from the top of our stairs onto our cement walkway. The rather steep price has been worth it to me.

I have one. Well worth the money if you have toddlers. Mine has survived a bath and a flush down the toilet...!
