I need help using my phone abroad

Just that really, can anyone help? I will email EE later, but I think they might take a while to get back to me.

I have an iPhone 5c which I've only had for a few weeks. I'm with EE and it says on their website that my phone is all set up for roaming and that I don't need to do anything. With my old phone, as soon as I was abroad I would get a text telling me how I could buy data bundles etc. and my phone would connect with a local carrier automatically. I think there must be some switch on my iphone that I need to turn on but I don't know where it is!

I have connected to the hotel wifi and chosen a local carrier manually, but it still says no service in the top left hand corner of my iphone. Is there something obvious I'm missing? I've even bought 30 minutes of talk time before I left the uk and I can't use it!

If you go into settings and then carrier, is the 'automatic' switch turned on? If not, this should connect you to the local network.

Try putting Airplane Mode on and then off again. Sometimes this makes it find a carrier.

Carrier is set to automatic but hasn't found any. I turned that off and it's found two local carriers but when I choose them, it still says no service.

I have just clicked airplane mode on and off and it still says no service. :(

I have been searching on the EE website and it says that if you are a new customer you may have to pay a deposit to use your phone abroad. I have been a Tmobile customer for the past three years! I'll have to get in touch with them somehow.

I sent a message to ee via Facebook and they have sorted it for me! It seems it was because I was a new customer, although I have been with Tmobile for a few years. I gave them some information and now it's all working. Thanks for the suggestions. :)
