Ipads and the technologically challenged

I'm thinking about getting an Ipad for Xmas and was wondering how you get an internet connection outside home or wifi hotspots.

I watch a lot of American tv series on sites like this www.watchfreemovies.ch/watch-tv-shows/2003/watch-ncis-13849/

Would I be able to watch these at work when I'm on nights? There is no work wireless connection and anyway I'm mostly out of my base station.

Is it 3G like my kindle or do I have to sign up to something? Or is it impossible?

Feeling rather dim here but hoping some clever person can help me.

You'd need a wifi and 3G ipad and buy a sim card (either PAYG or on a contract) in order to use the 3g network.

I have a PAYG sim card but I rarely use it - if you could download the shows to itunes and upload them to your ipad then you can watch them without a connection.

I wouldn't go 3G unless you can really afford it. After the initial outlay for your iPad (I'd get a mini if I were you I love mine) you then have to commit to a contract SIM normally. A PAYG SIM would be very expensive. I'd look for apps that let you download shows to your iPad to watch offline.

Thanks for that, Does anyone know where I can find apps which will let me download this type of show. Not interested in films, just tv shows.

I don't know to be honest but I'd have a look on the app store. But worse case scenario there's plenty of good games/apps that would keep you occupied.

Sorry, have never played games online Blush, told you I was technologically challenged.

I use internet and watch TV shows and that's it, just wondered if a tablet would be good for nightshifts or watching in bed.

I'd look at an iPad mini. Through iTunes you can buy or rent films and tv shows. You can also watch things through the iPlayer if you have WiFi at home. Also Netflix is a must if you do have WiFi at home £6 per month and dozens of tv shows ready to watch

I have unlimited data on my mobile contract so I use the phone to create a personal hotspot (wifi) and connect the iPad to that. Watch loads of streamed stuff on the connection and it's good.

I just had a look at the site you linked from my ipad and it said that I can't watch them because I don't have the flash player. Clicked on the bit to get the Adobe flash player and that said it doesn't support ipads.

So just for that website, a laptop would be better.

iPad data sent expensive if you shop around.

I've just bought an ovivo sim. £15 down payment and ou get 750Mb a month free. Some ads apparently. Not seen any yet!

yes, I second ovivo sim. they have good customer service, even for the technically challenged, such as myself, so not painful to get or to own.

Having said that, 750Mb doesn't amount to lots of streaming a day. If you are at home & using your wifi mainly, it won't matter, but if your night shift is away from home & wifi, that will get used up quickly.

Having just done 3 nightshifts where I had no time to even read I'm going to have a rethink but might look at improving our WiFi so that i can watch things in bed, atm my laptop doesn't get a signal in the bedroom.
