nintendo ds question

I am thinking early about Christmas presents for Ds 4

I think a ds will be a good idea, not the 3 d one as too young for that

is this a good idea for a 4 year old?
where do I get a normal one? do they still exist?

what do I need to know as I have not had one before
what are good games to have

thanks

most of the new games are being released for the 3DS. You can turn off and parent protect the 3D function so it doesnt get used - both mine (age 6 and 9) have had the 3DS for a couple of years but never use the 3D function.

Regular Ds you'll only find 2nd hand (ebid etc.)
Wouldn't your budget stretch to a 2nd hand DSi (maybe £70 on Ebay if not too close to Xmas)?
I wouldn't want my 4yo to have one, tbh. Mine wouldn't appreciate how breakable it is. Now 5yo, DS has never asked about having own DSi, either.

p.s. you would probably have to get a used/refurbished DS lite if you dont get a 3DS

sorry not a DSlite but a DSi was the previous model but I dont think they make them any more either

thanks for the advice
I didn't know you could turn off the 3d version

my ds are quite good at looking after things but they would only being using them supervised

You can still buy the dsi on Amazon but there's not much difference in price between that and the 3ds. My kids just use it with the 3d turned off.

I notice it's increasingly hard to find 2nd hand games for ordinary DSi, might be correct that the 3DS has taken over.
DC don't like the 3DS or DS-XL.

Cinema advert this afternoon advised that 3DS not for under 7s. Make of that what you will!

the 3D function isn't recommended under the age of 7 but it is ok for any age group to use with the 3D switched off and you can lock it off as shown in the previous link.
