If I buy a Kindle Fire, will I wish I had brought an ipad?

depends what you want to do with it really!

Remember kindle fire is designed as an ereader with other things as an ad on. If the "add ons" are what you really want think again..they are not it's underlying "thing" and really don't do them all that well.

Then you have the I want a tablet... android vs apple.

me I've done the apple fanboi thing and I think I',m over it.My guess would be you want a nexus 7. Only a few limitations to be aware of- no expandable storage- a failing shared by apple devices , being the biggie-so buy ig enough or use it as google intend, with lots of cloud storage.

I have an ipad, DH has a kindle fire hd. His he uses for reading and watching love film, he uses my ipad for everything else as finds the kindle fire slow, chunky and a pita. I did try ell him when he first mentioned buying it, but what do I know?

I think you need to ask what you want from a tablet and have you considered any of the other tablets out there?

What will you use it for? I have a Kindle Fire and an Iphone. I was very disappointed to discover that Android apps aren't available across all Android devices. The Kindle Fire seems to have very limited apps as it has a restriction on it compared to a usual android phone.

For example I looked at the Iphone apps I had and liked but have been able to put very few android equivalent on to the Kindle Fire even though there are android equivalents the block means they aren't available on the Kindle.

I use it for watching tv but, unlike the iphone, you can't download programmes on BBC iplayer. That is really irritating as that was one of the main reasons I bought it. I also use it occasionally for reading in bed but find it heavy to hold so use my iphone instead (I suspect I'd do the same if I had an ipad).

I hate hate hate how fiddly it is to adjust volume when you are watching a programme.

Well, my kindle fire cost £99 and ipads start at £270, so I would say that's the main difference. If you can afford an ipad, get an ipad. (helpful)

Agree that there are very limited apps on the Kindle. DS has one and we're thinking of trading it in.

I have a kindle fire because it was cheap. It's not that great though. You can only get film etc by subscribing to Love Film.

I got mine for £99 too. It has made me realise how much I want to get an Ipad.

I have a kindle fire and have found it quite disappointing. Don't have iPad money, though. Like Theas I used to be an Apple fan but have gone off them big time since they became just another huge corporation exploiting workers in developing countries.

I have a Google nexus which I love full range of android apps. how's everything I want but much cheaper than the ipad.

Did you know you can get an iPad at 3 store for £100 plus £25 a month for all you need data? Might be a way of getting an iPad without shelling out all the money in one go. If you haven't got wifi you would need to pay for your I telnet anyway. I worked out it wasn't that much more expensive over a couple of years, which is all gadgets seem to last for anyway before they need upgrading or replaced.

The Fire and Fire HD don't get the full range of Android apps because you can only get apps through the Amazon app store not Google Play. It's a bit like Amazon going all 'Apple' on their tablets. I got one for DW at Christmas when they were £99. At that price it was a no brainer. The quality of the hardware itself is excellent, especially at that price, it's just the app and OS restrictions which hurt it. For us it was an add on to an already tech filled house and is perfect for that, but I wouldn't have it as a main tablet.

If you want a 'mini' tablet, then you are best off with a Nexus 7. If you want a full size tablet, then the Galaxy Note 10.1, the Nexus 10 and the Asus Transformer range are worth a look.

I have a kindle fire and an ipad. The only thing I find I use the ipad for is you tube.

My fire is mainly for reading but if I have access to wifi, I'll check facebook, twitter and my email.

Thanks all! Yes I already have a Kindle for reading, so it would be used for surfing the net, playing games, email, music and general.

So can the Nexus 7 do the same as an ipad mini?

What is the difference other than the price?

Am saving up for an ipad mini but have the money now if I changed and went for a nexus 7 instead.

Do either have a camera and do they have speakers built in?

nexus has a basic camera but its mainly a webcam.
it has speakers and a microphone. I cannot think of anything that I would want an ipad mini over mine for. the only thing is that the play store has some different apps to I tunes and there are as few apps that are apple only.
I love mine.
