Why won't my ipad connect to home wifi?

Everything else will connect to the home wifi no problem.

The iPad will connect to my phone hotspot.

I've turned the router on and off, I've turned the iPad on and off. Still not working and the hotspot wifi is slow.

Does the iPad see the home wifi?
Have you checked that the password/code is correct? Obvious I know but sometimes it can be entered in wrong.

What provider are you with?

We are with virgin and had this problem when we got a nexus 7. I had to phone virgin sand they used remote access to change some settings via the PC. It only took a few mins, its quite a common problem.

You may be able to do it yourself if you use your PC and go into control settings etc.

I'm with virgin but the iPads used it fine for the last two years.

It does see the connection but when I try and connect on to it I just get the whirring circle thing which whirs around for ever and it never connects. Doesn't get as far as asking for the password but it should remember the password and know it anyway.

Ive just come on to post a very similar problem. Since I upgraded my software on my ipad my internet connection at home is very slow but...
My main issue is that in my shop it wont recognise the password, it asks for the password and says it is incorrect, i know it isnt because i recently paired my new iphone and it accepted it, ive tried turning the router off and the ipad off grrrrrr!

Is it since you upgraded Viva?

No I hadn't upgraded.

But last night after it wouldn't connect I did upgrade to see if that helped and it hasn't done.

It's really annoying as it renders my ipad useless. I can't use it as its so slow, it's going to take all my data from my phone contract and I'm going to run up massive bills. I've currently got a £500 useless lump of plastic.

D you think it's worth telling my ipad to forget the home wifi and then trying to start from scratch with it?

Yes tell it to forget and then get it to search or try again.

And phonevirgin medias, theory will help you with equipment you are getting to connect to virgin with even if you didn't buy it from virgin.

They will not theory..

Ok tried that and it hasn't helped. It can't be my ipad as the iPad connects to the hotspot fine. It can't be the wifi as everything else connects to the wifi fine

I'm having a bad day. I can't fit my new pannier rack to my bike either.

viva everything else connected to our WiFi as well, apparently sometimes it can just go a bit funny so worth raining virgin who go through a troubleshooting checklist.

We've had the same with our iPad 2, our 3 is working fine and both were updated at the same time.

It just seemed to fix itself the other day for some reason but I've tried restoring and allsorts.

Thanks I will try ringing Virgin.

You may need to reduce the security settings on the router. I don't know exactly but there are different kinds, like WEP is one and there are others which I'm not sure of the names. DP experimented with the settings on ours and found that one certain setting my phone would not connect to. He pulled it down by one notch and it was fine. It might be worth going into the settings of your router to fiddle around with these.

Have you done anything to your PC such as reboot it? Change settings? Update it? That can change the WiFi settings apparently and then it won't let things connect. We had upgraded our PC and it then went to a default setting, but was easily changed.

Bloody annoying when it doesn't work!

I had this problem with my iPad. Try forgetting the wifi, switch the router off for 10 minute and then connecting again. A quivk switch in and off doesn't work. If you look on the apple website there are some other ideas.

I've had the same problem with my iPhone - apparently it's a problem with iOS 6. Have tried restoring and resetting and whatnot but to no avail so going to try the Apple store next time I'm over that way. It's so annoying!

Its working. After watching me struggle for 12 hours IT whizz DH finally suggested I turn the wireless connection off and on and this did it. I didn't realise that was seperate from the router/modem thingy.

Yay! And yes its seperate from the router as I discovered the time phoned virgin very cross as ours wasn't working only to discover dp had turned the wireless bit off... I had already done the turn the router off/on but didn't realise there was another on/off for the wireless.

... and people sometimes wonder why I dislike wi-fi, and favour ethernet cables ...

A long time ago, I was responsible for some of the control software and hardware where I worked. We had around 1200 cables from offices and labs and another 400 to our big computers. All that wiring was under the false floor to a big electronic switch/ exchange, and worked well for us.

Glad I didn't have 1200 wireless links with random "cannot connect" problems. All such wizardry goes wrong to some degree, but at least with cables and LEDs we could remedy most problems quickly :)

I know it's a bit late but when our iPads do this, we turn off ipad wireless, witch them off, unplug router and leave for 5 mins. Switch everything on in reverse to the above and it works.
