Have updated their super wonderful computer website thing with the latest whatsits, and my knackered old laptop now refuses to engage with it.

I'm on Windows XP (2002), but is there some special add-on, or plug-in, or cookie that I need to access the site

How odd. My ipad gets it with google. Are you getting it from your favourites? If so that can go sometimes, but google should always find it. We have amber warnings here Sad

Leucan, I've never been able to get links that OhYouBadBadKitten posts on her weather threads to load as she links to the upgraded site. The page will open but it just says loading even if I leave it for an hour! This link still works for me though:

www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/uk_forecast_weather.html

My laptop is only about 18 months old and quite high spec so don't curse your faithful workhorse too much.

Confused

Sneeze, no, I've tried going in through the front again, ifyswim, via google, so not cached pages.

Zombie, that is spooky internet magic spell stuff - how the hell does that link work when I cannot otherwise find that page! I have the same problem with the upgrade - a constant 'loading' message which is just a big fat lie.

I don't know for sure how it works, but I have it bookmarked so I can always get in that way!

I do not like the new met office pages. I find they freeze on my iPad when I'm trying to scroll around and often to get the next time interval to fresh i have to click on another tab on my browser and then go back on to the met office tab. they do however give more detail than the old pages and are more zoom able in when working.
They seem to try to hide the new pages, but if I google for met office I end up with the old ones. It's really odd.

Well a huge thank you, anyway.

Having just looked outside at the distinct lack of snow, it's always a second best to come back inside and stare at the amber snow warning showing over my house on the metoffice page... Hmm

Metoffice is clumsy on the ipad. Was looking for severe weather warnings the other day and got a bucket and spade. Confused

Leucan, I tried the site on an XP machine and it works about the same as it does anywhere else (ie not that well). If you're on the severe weather map + alert page, it's using fancypants HTML5 page coding rather than a plugin.

So I wonder if the browser itself is causing you problems? Internet Explorer 8 and 7 aren't fully compatible with HTML5.

If that's what you use, try a different browser and see if it helps, eg Google Chrome. I could be talking through the back of my neck, but worth a try.

Chrome works quite well for me apart from having to manually force it to search for the next lot of data.

Ooh so nice to see that old style page!

Hate the new one!

Hmm, I'm on Firefox so I'll check for glitches with HTML5 on that, thanks!

Buggery. An 'inconsistent' issue with Firefox 18.0.1 it appears. Best advice is to try clearing cache and bookmarks, which frankly, is about the same quality of advice as 'have you plugged your computer in at the wall, love' from the office helpdesk. Hmm

Ahhh, Zombie is using Firefox 18.0.1 as well. Off to try it on Chrome!

Yes, the new site appears to work well on Google Chrome.
