converting to multimedia message

I'm struggling with my new phone! I got this message just before I sent a longish text message. What does it mean and will the intended recipient have got it?

It means it has turned it into the equivalent of a picture message, because it was too long for a text message (usually when it goes over three messages' worth of characters, if you know what I mean). They should have got it if they have a phone that can receive picture messages and have it set up to do so, but it probably cost you more than a text (usually about 50p)
