I put mine in last week, they'd sprouted sooo much that I daren't leave them any longer.

I think St Patricks day is the traditional day for putting them in, so I am a few days early.

I'm doing mine next week, if it stops bl**dy raining. A coldish night won't do any harm, but if there's a lot of leafy growth showing and you're expecting a frost, you should rush out and draw more earth over. Easiest done with a rake. You should keep earthing them up as they grow anyway.

Mine also chitting nicely on our bedroom windowsill, would have planned to do them Paddy's day but ground still very wet. Will see if it improves next week. I love SPUDS!!!
