Had a pheasant in the garden last night. It was almost dark when it suddenly appeared at the patio doors, really made me jump. At least the foxes didn't get him.

Cool!

Dp's granny puts food out to encourage them. They are beautiful. They'll eat some of your garden though - I think they like berries and soft fruit.

Pheasants are great, we always have some they roost in trees and on top of our hedges

We used to have a flock of pheasants on the lawn. The mess they used to leave behind....

we once stayed in a holiday cottage which had a seriously mad rogue pheasant in the garden. It attacked when anyone tried to go in the garden, particularly if they were wearing red. It sounds funny but was actually really scary and painful!

When one of the men tried to cross the lawn wearing red socks he was pecked so badly his ankles bled.

I must admit I did laugh as I watched him hopping over the lawn shrieking and trying to batter the pheasant away with a suitcase (but trying to batter in a non-injurious way in case it was a tame pet of the house-owner).

Sadly when it attacked the red laces of my hiking boots I found it less funny!

I used to make pheasant fricasee for the family i used to work for, even the children loved it - but one day i mistook it for grouse-ooops !Actually it was even worse cos the dad had shot the thing gutted/stripped it and left it in the fridge to cook for his wife after she had been away for about 2 days then gormeless me came along and chucked it in the oven with a few veggies for the kids supper. I was not employee of the month.
Another time one flew into my windscreen and broke it - not happy- and neither was I(sorry , did'nt stop to see if it was dead or not)

Round here pheasants are regarded as a pest. Ours moved out of the garden sharpish when we got the dog.
