Over-grown Lavender!! (I think)

I have a beautiful row of lavender going up the steps to the house..BUT..it is leaning and beginnig to obscure the path.......I have been told I can only cut it back to the woody bit, otherwise it won't grow back.

My books are silent on this.

Is this true? If I did cut back above the woody bits, would it grow back this year??

Anyone?? Thanks.

you need to leave about half an inch of green below the cut. don''t know if it would sprout this year. i'd wait until it's finished flowering to cut it.

Than you v. much.....

I think it means it is buggered as the woody bits are quite long now.

Well that'll learn me!

Thanks again.
