HELP, My dad has destroyed part of my ivy, what should i do

My dad very kindly offered to tidy my garden for me. I accepted his offer on the condition that the ivy was left alone. The ivy covers the whole length of a fence which faces a footpath and road, so prevents people looking in etc.. Anyway, he asked me how I trim it so I told him.

I then went out for a few hours and when I was approaching the house I could see dear father with those monstrous electric hege cutters in his hand, he had been at the ivy. He has totally cut away a section about six foot long. I am not happy.

I dont know much about plants etc as the garden was established when we moved in.

What can I get which will take over the space extra quick and either grow to the height of the fence and or over the fence to cover the other side of the fence. At the moment the other side of the fence is bare for about a six foot length then the remaining 20 foot is lovely and covered in pretty ivy.

double bluff, that is what my mum said. Maybe if i just get one pot to fill tha gap. I know what you mean though. Our house was covered in the stuff. We got it all pulled down as it can be so damaging, but alas, it is growing up the side of the house.

lol, lilredwg, alot of people feel like that about ivy. Indeed I did when it covered the whole house, but on fence it is a screen of privacy and blocks out the world and I feel as though I am in the countryside, then I wake up and smell the coffee

It will return, if you want it to grow a bit faster, you can put plant feed on it, you will be the only person ever that I know who did though . Treat the chopped off ends to a plant sauna; put some cotton wool into a bag, add plant food and some water, put an end into it and tye some twine around it. Leave it for 24 hours and it will help the ivy to grow faster.
