we have one of our plants in the allotment totally eaten and whatever it is seems to have started on the next one.Leaves completely gone and stems turning brown.
Any suggestions on what it is and how to stop it?

The only pest which usually attacks rhubarb is crown rot.

Does it sound like this?

souns like crown rot am googling now for more info, think it sounds like its a good job we have 2 patches away from each other

We thought something had started eating it then died as it was only one leaf at first (and rhubarb leaves are poisonous) but then the whole plant seems to have gone ths week
