Gardening

Greenfly indoors!!!

I know nothing about gardening and kill plants (thought I would start with that).

Anyway, this year we bought a couple of tomato plants, a capsicum and a chili plant for fun to grow on the kitchen windowsill.

I've been very consciencious with watering and the tomatoes are thriving, hugely tall, lots of flowers. The other two plants have been horribly abused by me not getting round to repotting them and the chili is covered in greenfly which I've also spotted on the capsicum. I brushed off all the ones I could see but the leaves are all sticky (eggs?) and I think the chili has had it.

Will they go onto the tomatoes as well? Have I failed again?? I've moved the affected plants to another windowsill and will repot to see if that makes a difference.

wash the leaves with washing up liquid/water mix and do again in a couple of days (its like nit hunting!)

chilli is horribly tasty to greenfly, mine gets eaten alive every year.

they are terribly hardy though, rescue it now by brushing the leaves clean with a paintbrush diped in very diluted washing up liquid every day for a week or so and it should come back.

tomato has natural anti pest resistance to a certain degree so should be ok but if it is attacked just do the same as for the chilli.

chilli can survive without a huge amount of nutrition too so as long as you repot now it'll probably be ok.

Thanks - glad to know there's a chance it'll come back. I'll not give up on it yet!
