Advice on plants that son't need much water

Having a problem with half of my garden. Next door have very large pear trees which suck up most of the moisture and nutrients in the soil.

This has resulted in right hand side of garden looking lush and gorgeous, and left hand side looking a bit pathetic.

Any idea of what will grow well without too much water (live in hose pipe ban area.) The area gets good sun for most of the day. No idea what the soil is through.

Most herbs do well without a lot of water (or love and attention). Mint.

But don't do what I did and plant loads of catnip and catmint, it's turned into catfight central in my garden (but at least they have stopped crapping on the lawn heheh).
