does anyone know if it's feasible to rotivate untouched (at least 4 years)ground which was a (5 ft high) bramble jungle, and then burn off the exposed roots with a flame thrower, and then do the same thing again in spring just before planting spuds? should I just try "no dig"
Any other suggestions, it's a 5-rod plot (8 x 12mtrs)

no idea sorry. But the flame thrower sounds like fun

DON'T rotivate. Chances are there are weeds in the ground (perennials) that can grow back vigorously even when chopped off. As a matter of fact a rotivator would just cut up the root and each of the bits of root grows into a nice new weed!

Try a few gardening books and select a suitable weedkiller. You may have to repear the experience a few times until you get all the plants/weeds killed off.

The burning off sounds like fun but it also destroys all the wildlife and bacteria in the soil which is actually doing a lot of damage. A lot depends to how you want to use the plot of land in the future: just clear the grouns and then out on decking or grow flowers/veg?
