Creating an English country garden

I'm after some help please, I'm trying to create the above in my front garden, I have a picket fence at the front of my property with room for some plants in front of it. I get daffs and tulips coming up in the spring but nothing other than weeds for the rest of the year. What can I plant to make it look pretty all year round?

Crocus do very similar planting plants and always have very good advice and plants (crocus.co.uk). They supply a lot of the Chelsea flower show gardens so you know you're in good hands. Can't underestimate a bit of everygreen too, to keep interest over winter. Box balls are fab for that, as is sarcococca confusa (both are happy in shade as well as sun). Choisyas are happy in sun or shade, and Phormiums are good evergreens for sun. Which way does your front garden face?
The classic cottage garden plants are roses, lavender, lupins, delphiniums, hardy geraniums (brilliant plants - loads of types for every situation and in every colour), lady's mantle (alchemilla mollis), lambs ears (stachys)... could go on!
