Lambs lettuce is in. Would peas still go? Any tips greatly appreciated.

Not much will grow this late in season from seed, but if you get cheap plants (garden centres may sell off as it's late) some things may possibly do something.

Seed sowing now and into autumn for growing next year might be possible.

The VERY EASIEST thing to grow is courgettes; sow seed in pots next spring, plant out in May; harvest July/Aug onwards. BUT - the plants get VERY large, so maybe you won't have room. Keep picking to keep them coming; turn into marrows if left too long.

Strawberries are a lovely thing to have, and you can plant now for next year:

www.bbc.co.uk/gardening/basics/techniques/growfruitandveg_strawberries1.shtml

only need straw or similar to keep fruits off ground when they form, and net over them if you have trouble with birds.

Raspberries are nice too, but will need some form of support, and the canes need pruning; probably come in summer or autumn fruiting varieties.

If there are any gardening clubs, or friendly enthusiasts near you, they will probably advise/help, and might share plants with you.

On-line, there are plenty of dedicated sites for almost every kind of plant, so look there for more detailed help.

Oh, I missed this! Thank you so much. I'll certainly have a read around, even have books but it was a bit of a last minute opportunity and so close to the end of summer. Just want to cram in anything quick rather than wait until next year!

Have planted some lettuce that claimed it was OK, and the lambs lettuce is in, of course. Beets might be good. Turnips of course but I don;t know that this lot will eat them. We shall see.

The garden is indeed part of a sort of gardening club / community ground thing, no plants going ATM but plenty of opportunity to swap and share next spring. Which is fab! The annual Courgette Overload is in full swing there ATM, so, yeah, not sure I'll plant any myself. Are cucumbers needing to be under glass? Shall have to wait for my peas but they'll surely be all the tastier for it!

We've got some good looking existing strawberries and I'm after planting some more. No real room for a raspberry cage but I surely would love one Grin

We used to have a greenhouse, and excellent cucumbers and tomatoes, but much more difficult outside I think.
