Tree Identification help

I have a lovely big tree in my garden which is currently laden with fruit which look plum-like. I'm not sure whether they are edible and want to know whether I can make use of this bounty - or need to keep the Dcs away.....

My parents seem to think it's a type of Victoria plum - but I thought I'd ask the gardeners here what you all think.

I'm in Germany not the UK so not sure if that makes any difference.

Look like Damsons to me, they make great jam.

Right - there's another job to do then..... best harvest before they all fall to the mercy of the slugs :)

Now - anyone know anything about hazel trees - have 3 with nuts on when are they likely to be ready to harvest?

I'd have a look now but probably not until about September when the nuts have turned brown and the outer leafy covering has started to shrivel and crisp up. If you cracked one now you may just get a very small immature nut inside.
