Anybody know what this is, please?

It came from Aldi & their tags are often wrong - this was supposed to be osmanthus but it isn't, is it?

It grows like stink & it's in quite a confined space so I'm always hacking it back randomly which tends to stop it flowering at the right time (last year there were flowers mid-winter, poor thing is confused)

Could it be a weigela?

Looks like a viburnum to me

My first thought was weigela - viburnum tends to have more ball shaped clusters of flowers. Yep, weigela.

most weigelas seem to have shiny leaves but this one has the ribbed leaves like mine

Nah it's not weigela,I reckon Vib.bodnantense,have a sniff of the flowers,should smell nice.

Apparently it is supposed to flower in the winter? So flowering now is wrong - do I still prune after flowering?

& do I prune the bits that don't have flowers - which are much the majority atm???

Lucky you! There is a mature one of these near our town hall and I had to craftily tear a wee bit off and take it to a gardener friend to ID it. It is very beautiful at a time when everything else in the garden is bleak.
