Just that really!

I have a huuuge old rose to cut back/down, and it seem to have particularly pointy thorns. Can anyone recommend a good pair of gloves that will stop my hands from being shredded and punctured?

Non leather if poss.

I'm not sure there are any, other than chain mail which are v.expensive.I use a pair of open sprung pliers to hold/pick up the stems & other hand with sacateurs which works well

Thank you.

Chain mail, hey? I could go for that (or so I imagine intil I see how £££/heavy/hot they are...) and pretend I am a fighter gardener from the Days of Yore.

Thanks too for the tip about pliers in the other hand - I shall try that!

I've got some heavy duty gardening gloves I got from B&Q - they are a fabric which has been dipped in some sort of thick, green rubbery coating. They have been brilliant for those kinds of jobs. They were sold as being for these kinds of uses.
