My lovely salad crop has been utterly destroyed by insects / caterpillars. I still have some seeds left, so have planted these up in pots and hope to have more success. But I'm left with a patch of bare earth in the veggie patch, although some rosemary, sage and mint at the back are doing okay.
What can I plant at this time of year? I could just leave the space empty, or maybe plant some more herbs to turn the veggie patch into a herb garden. Is it too late for bedding plants to add some colour? Or some perennials (give up on growing food!). Potatoes? Our neighbours have a great crop from potato bags , but they planted them weeks ago.
We have a heavy clay soil and only partial sun, but in the middle of the day so the ground gets some decent warmth. All advice appreciated!
