my ex potted me a plant which he did from one he had. he called it a money plant but i have googled it and its not what i have

i have seen them in chinese restaurants in huge pots if that makes a difference

the plant has quite thick green leaves and are roundish shaped. they seem to be budding quite quickly at the mo.

this is all i can think of to desctibe it.
thanks

yeah that is the one i have. thanks!!

mine doesnt have any flowers though

the thing is i have the main middle part of it and it has branched out a couple of times but one is longer than the other.

i have turned it towards the light in the hope that it will grow at the same rate as the rest but it isnt. is this normal?

TIA

hi im back again with another question. i have put the plant in a bigger pot as the one i had before was too small, however leaves are still dropping off of it and its only really the top leaves remaining.

the ones that have fallen off look all shrivelled but the ones still on there look healthy and green. i read on a website not to over water them which i havent but the pot is really dry now but im worried about watering it anymore.

have i killed it do you think?

Sorry, I wasn't as clear as I could have been!

If you've got the plant standing in a saucer or something, you can just put water in the saucer and let it stand for 5 mins.
Then throw the rest of the water away after the plant's taken up what it wants.

This helps me not to overwater.

How often do you water? Our plants tend to get watered when someone remembers, so not too often - maybe once every 2 weeks.

hi no it is in a big pot. no saucer or anything underneath.

just wasnt sure if there was some miracle treatment i could give it

it looks healthy enough, quite bare down the bottom but when the leaves are falling off they are all shrivelled like too much water

If it's in a a big pot with no saucer underneath does it have drainage? Or do you mean the pot's in a container/cachepot..i.e. the pot has drainage but is sitting in a pot?

What I'm trying to say is: if extra water can't run out the bottom then it will be overwatered/rotting.

....and that takes a while to recover from. Even if the soil is dry now.

...a further thought. It's not sitting in a draught, is it?

it used to be on the windowsil in the kitchen but i thought the coldness of winter was making the leaves drop off so i moved it into the lounge near the fire place.

the pot i transferred it from didnt have room for draining and it grew fine.

just really not sure what im doing wrong

I agree I think it's a jade plant/money plant/cressula something or other. They like dry feet, and are fussy about changes in temperature. I have loads - can't bear to throw them away as superstitious abotu the money aspect - and every so often they suffer a natural disaster of some sort like getting a bit frozen in the greenhouse. But they are really tough and always grow back one way or the other. they like a good amount of light apparently, and hard living.

Mine are dropping leaves at the moment too - I think it's the time of year/changes in temperature thing. I don;t water them for ages, then when the weather warms up a bit and the days are a bit lighter I pot them on if necessary, or start watering them. I find ignoring them suits them best though.

thanks for that. will keep an eye on it and leave it for now though
