What to put in this bed???

Picture this if you can...I live in a detached house with gravel parking in front of it and a stone wall boundary at the front. I have a narrow and fairy shallow bed which essentially props up the aforementioned wall. The bed is only visible from inside/ in front of the house looking out...the bed is c30ft x 3ft on an incline. The house faces west. So the bed is east facing.

What do you suggest I do with it? Large shrubs?

What are you wanting to achieve here, Chippy? Do you want a "hedge" for privacy? Something high that looks good from the street? Something low, but attractive from your front windows?

What do your neighbours have at the front?

Mmm not sure what I want really.. Neighbours have allsorts.. We live in a hamlet on a quiet road there are different house types and gardens,

It's the narrowness and depth of the bed I'm concerned with I think. I need something with shallow roots ( I think)

We've just planted thuja to act as a screen down each front side of the house. We've got a couple of fruit trees at the side too. And the house is quite traditional.big shrubs would look out of place (clay soil)

Is the wall high enough to make the bed really shady most of the day, or just a little low wall? If little and low then plant anything, if high and shady plant lungwort, ferns, campanula, some of the less fussy cranes bills.... Loads of choice for semi shade.

I'd say semi shade it's a 5ft stone wall.
