Garden path dilemma

Lengthy moan alert.

I have just spent a fortune (by my standards) having the patio and garden path redone. Because neither I nor the landscaper fancied the task of excavating all the old patio covering, we agreed that the new would be laid on top of the old, which should only raise the level by an inch or so and so not interfere with the DPC. But, today has been my first chance to look at the work in daylight and it's not at all what I expected. The path slopes down the garden but for some inexplicable reason the landscaper has not followed the line of the slope and has built up the bottom of the path so that it sticks out over the lawn like a jetty. I cried when I saw it.

So, what to do?

I could raise the level of the lawn so that lawn and path are flush or at least nearly flush again (I can do this because the beds are raised, so the lawn could come up by a couple of inches, although this would alter the balance between lawn and flowerbeds).

The ugliest aspect of the path is that several inches of concrete base are visible along its length. Another option would be to cover the sides of the concrete base with the same material as the surface (this is possible too) so that at least I'm not confronted with the sight of raw concrete.

I think my best option (apart from disemboweling the landscaper with my Felcos) is to raise the lawn a bit - I don't think raising it all by four or five inches is feasible - and edge the side of the path so that it blends more with the surface. But will this look weird?

I should add that DH thinks everything is fine and that we can have a jetty path that is at its end five inches above the lawn because the flowerbeds are a similar height above the lawn and so it all fits. Could he be right?

Could you plant something along the edges of the path that would disguise it a bit? So something that grows to about 6in or so and would soften the edges yet still blend with the lawn bit. Not sure what that could be though, something herby?

Hmm. I've been pondering that this afternoon, Bertha. Years ago there was a narrow bed at the side of the path and I suppose I could reinstate that, but I took it out because it didn't really work. Another option that comes to mind is that if I painted the side of the path a dark colour it should recede visually.
